3B was awarded the contract to provide auditing survey services to Tianqi for their new build Lithium plant in Kwinana.
The client extended our services to include site control survey. Control pillars were established, coordinated and updated on a regular basis, listings were then provided to other survey contractors.
Adjoining the site was a power substation, which required connection to the new facility. As part of the process, it had to be thoroughly surveyed so that design could be carried out for the powering of the plant, the topography, hold down bolts, underground services and overhead transmission lines.
A gas line was installed connecting the facility to the substation, a full road topographical survey was completed so that the gas utility could be designed, this was then tied into the cadastral lot parcels.
A detailed underground service model was required to show the location of all installed underground assets and managed by 3B Survey. All underground assets installed were located by the contracting surveyors and the data handed over to 3B was compiled into the overall model and issued weekly for dig permits.
As-built surveys were carried out on all rotating kilns and equipment to check that the alignments were suitably positioned as per the tolerances required. Along with surveys on all warehouses and workshops to ensure that they were fabricated to Australian Standards, HD bolt positions and verticality of columns were checked and reported.
All pumps and vessels were surveyed, including the nozzles to determine centre point coordinates and face and bolt angles so that the adjoining spools could be designed and fabricated.
Various troubleshooting surveys were carried out on equipment to determine factors for the client to aid in the design process.
Monitoring of the major pedestals to detect for major movement during settlement, monitoring pins were established on the structures and reports were issued showing differences to the base line measurements.
Total stations, (TS15, TS16 1” instruments) digital level (LS15 & DNA03, used for precisely levelling control and monitoring for settlement issues)
Aiden recently completed his Diploma of Surveying from North Metropolitan TAFE, balancing two years of study while contributing to 20+ projects across Australia and overseas. A fantastic achievement! 👏
Here’s what Aiden said about juggling work with his course and what lies ahead in his career…
COURSE HIGHLIGHTS? “The team aspect throughout the practicals was a highlight for me. Having the opportunity to develop and challenge each other’s abilities as surveyors in some great locations around Perth made the course quite enjoyable.”
HOW DID 3B SUPPORT YOU? “3B supported me with a flexible work roster which enabled me to study the course fulltime and work simultaneously. This was beneficial as I had access to both industry resources and opinions from qualified surveyors.”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO NOW? “The variety in projects that 3B is involved in both in Australia and across the world. It gives any surveyor a good chance to travel and develop their skills in an alternative branch of surveying. Additionally, both drafting and modelling data in greater depth is something I’m also looking forward to now I’m qualified.”
ADVICE FOR ASPIRING SURVEYORS? “Don’t hesitate. There are many great opportunities that come with a Diploma of Surveying. A good portion of the course is practical based with tools and equipment used at industry level allowing for a smooth transition into the industry.”
Aiden’s story reflects the exciting opportunities at 3B Survey, not only for our current team but also for future employees looking to grow their careers in surveying.
