Ichthys Project

Inpex | 2019-ongoing

Background

3B Survey was engaged by Inpex in 2019 to conduct a few small-scale brownfields surveys. Since the completion of those smaller scopes Inpex have grown confident in the availability and quality of our services. This relationship has since grown & now we service all Inpex facilities across the Ichthys project, largest of those being the BCM Module fabrication and installation.

Services

  • Overall support with dimensional control surveys for Phase 2b project
  • Completing as-built surveys of existing central processing facility structural and piping equipment to facilitate engineering design packages
  • The project adopted a first-time approach so the need for accurate and reliable as-built information was critical
  • Dimension control assurance to fabrication activities both local and overseas where criticality is heightened due to scale of installation. Notable mention here is the 220T BCM Guides installation where 3B supported with fabrication surveys in McD PTMI (Batam).
  • Supporting execution activities, offshore presence during large-scale structural installations where frequent monitoring during the adjustment activities were required to ensure installation was within tolerance prior giving confidence to commence with time-intensive welding campaigns to make the installation permanent.
  • Carried out installation modelling studies to superimpose as-built (fabrication) surveys over master model as desktop assurance activities to adhere to the fit-first-time approach
  • Development and maintain of project as-built master model which is used as the project go-to for accurate dimensional checks for subsequent engineering design scopes and installation verifications and clash checks.
  • Notable mention here is the 4500T BCM installation to the CPF. This activity utilises Hereema’s Sleipnir heavy lift vessel (largest in the world) involving lift offshore from the barge to CPF  (the heaviest lift of this type ever undertaken in southern hemisphere). 3B is responsible for completing the Ready for BCM Lift surveys. This an interface assessment assurance activity to ensure all topside modifications to prepare the CPF for the lift have been completed, comparing it to the module as-built survey which 3B have completed in McD yard prior to module loads out for saildown to the Ichthys field. The CPF is shutdown production and the lift can only proceed during a limited weather window. The fit-first-time mantra is as important as ever for this activity as the implications of delays to lift are enormous. Only the most reliable and accurate survey provider can support with this activity and Inpex is confident in 3B’s service to task them with this responsibility.

Outcome

The standard both companies hold themselves to has resulted in a 100% success rate, we have never had to perform re-work due to survey error and have often prevented rework outside of our scope due to the persistence of the survey team while on site.
