3B were engaged by Chevron in 2013 to assist in the installation and pipe fabrication of 3 new gas compressors at an onshore terminal. Following the success of the project we move into the survey and fabrication of several upgrades & shutdown projects on offshore facilities around the world.
In 2017 3B were heavily involved in the dimensional control on the fabrication of the Leviathan topsides and jacket in Corpus Christi, Texas. We were also tasked with surveying the individual modules which were to be placed on the platform, located in various locations around the world. These included landing hooks / interface sections, flare boom and various modules that were to be positioned on the platform. We conducted load-out surveys in July 2019 and later handled the survey and fabrication of the main connections during hookup and commissioning at its final offshore location in the Mediterranean Sea.
To date we are still involved in the majority of projects Chevron carry out on these facilities, including the initial offshore surveys to capture and survey the connection tie points, to modifying and reviewing the design drawings, to ensure the information which has been captured is transferred to the drawings before the fabrication starts, and finally work along side the preferred fabricator, to ensure that the spool or module is fabricated to the correct tolerance before being shipped to its final location.
As we have been working with the same personnel throughout the various projects over the years, 3B have a good working relationship with Chevron, which has helped cement us being involved in many future projects.
Main services provided are traditional dimensional control survey and laser scanning to capture existing Tie Points and areas of interest. This information is then delivered to the chosen design team to assist in the planning and design of the project, capturing the true As-Built information of the asset.
Red line or Yellow line mark ups are carried out on the design to ensure that the correct information is incorporated into the drawings before fabrication starts.
Spool & Fabrication surveys are a key service that 3B Supply to Chevron, incorporating the as-built information captured offshore into the drawings, and working with the fabricator to make sure that they are built to the correct tolerances, and allow a first-time.
Services provided can vary from a two-man team through to a full team of up to 14 men including senior surveyors, project surveyors, graduates and assistants. The equipment used are mainly Leica TS16s and Leica RTC360 laser scanner, and we use our own bespoke survey software to calculate all flange survey results.
